Facelift — Improve Jaw Line Definition

Your jaw line will appear more defined after a facelift at our clinic.

Facelift can improve aesthetic problems such as sagging cheeks, excess fat and skin below the chin, and wrinkles near the mouth. This procedure, also called a rhytidectomy, tightens underlying tissue structure and removes fat.

Our Techniques

Dr. Sanmiguel always keeps your final appearance in mind. To ensure that your scars stay hidden, he makes discreet incisions in areas of the face not easily noticeable.

First, Dr. Sanmiguel creates an incision above the ear, near the hairline. He then removes fat beneath the skin, tightens facial muscles, and pulls the skin back. Excess skin also may be removed. The doctor then makes a small incision beneath the chin, removing fat and smoothing the cord-like structure of the neck.

If you do not have a significant amount of excess skin, you could be a candidate for an endoscopic facelift. With this procedure, Dr. Sanmiguel makes smaller incisions, so post-surgical scars are even more subtle.

When facial sagging in the cheek area is pronounced, a procedure called a mid-facelift may be performed. Incisions are often made inside the lower eyelid but may be placed in another area that provides superior access to the central cheek.

After surgery, you will notice your face is bruised, puffy and pale, with some numbness. These effects will subside after only a few weeks. You will have to avoid exercise and other strain on the facial skin for two to three weeks. Results gradually become apparent in one to four months.

Eyelid Surgery — Lift Sagging Eyelids

As we age, our upper eyelids start to sag, making many of us appear tired or sad. If you suffer from sagging eyelids, eyelid surgery could help you appear friendlier, better rested, and more alert.

Eyelid surgery, also called blepharoplasty, removes excess fat and sagging skin from the upper eyelids, restoring a healthier, more youthful appearance to the eyes. In addition to lifting the droopy skin of the upper eyelids, the procedure also eliminates bags under your eyes and tightens lower eyelid skin.

Eyelid surgery is often performed along with facelift surgery or facial rejuvenation. Some people have inherited traits causing them to need eyelid surgery in their 20s or early 30s.

Our Techniques

To lift the upper eyelids, Dr. Sanmiguel makes an incision at the upper eyelid fold. This hides any scars in the eyelid creases. The incision extends to the corner of the eye, where the incision blends in naturally with the laugh lines.

Next, Dr. Sanmiguel removes excess skin, fat, and muscle. Finally, he replaces and stitches the skin, leaving it smooth and tight.

To treat the lower eyelids, our surgeon makes an incision hidden below your lower lashes. Through this opening, our surgeon adjusts muscle structure and removes excess skin. He also may redistribute excess fat to eliminate bulges or puffiness under the eyes.

If your lower eyelid skin is not excessive, our doctor may use a different technique to remove fat, such as making the incision inside the eyelid. If necessary, he will use a precise laser to resurface and tighten the lower eyelid skin.

After surgery, expect some swelling that may persist for a week or longer. Your vision may be somewhat blurry for a few days, and you will want to wear dark glasses to protect your eyes from wind and sun. Within a week, you will be able to wear make up to conceal any remaining discoloration. You should be able to return to work within five to seven days.

Rhinoplasty — Producing Beautifully Shaped Noses

If you want a smaller, longer or more beautifully shaped nose, you should consider rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty — the technical term for “nose job” — can improve the shape of the nose in many ways. This procedure can:

  • Shorten a long nose
  • Narrow a wide nose
  • Remove the bump on the bridge
  • Build up a flat nose
  • Refine the tip of the nose
  • Reduce the size of the nostrils

Dr. Sanmiguel can also perform numerous other improvements to give you the nose you’ve dreamed of having. But of course, we will not perform more enhancements than necessary. We want your nose to look natural. A natural appearance is essential to a balanced, more attractive face.

For young patients, we recommend that you wait until age 16 before undergoing rhinoplasty, as the nose must first fully develop before being reshaped. For older adults, however, we have no upper age limit, as long as you are in satisfactory health.

Our Techniques

Our doctor can perform two types of rhinoplasty — closed and open.

With closed rhinoplasty, our doctor makes incisions inside the nose. This ensures you will recover more rapidly and your scars will be completely hidden. However, this incision limits Dr. Sanmiguel’s ability to see certain nasal structures, so he cannot use this method in all cases.

With open rhinoplasty, our surgeon can make incisions on the skin separating the nostrils, in addition to incisions inside the nose. This technique gives our surgeon greater visibility of nasal structures, but it can cause swelling to last longer than the closed method. Still, you can reduce swelling with proper post-surgery care, such as elevating your head while sleeping. Dr. Sanmiguel will advise you as to whether the closed or open method is right for you.

After surgery, you will experience minor swelling and bruising. You may have to wear a nasal splint for a week or longer. You also must avoid exercise or strenuous activities for several weeks.

Liposuction — Remove Fat Deposits

Do you exercise and diet strictly, yet cannot eliminate fat deposits on your body and face? If so, you may wish to consider liposuction. This procedure, also called lipoplasty, can remove stubborn pockets of fat from various areas, including:

  • Hips
  • Thighs
  • Stomach
  • Neck
  • Arms
  • Back

We do not recommend this procedure for everyone. To qualify for liposuction, you must have firm skin, and your body weight must have been stable for six months. After liposuction, your skin will shrink and fit tightly over the treated areas. If your skin is loose or has stretch marks, liposuction will not improve skin firmness. It might even hinder natural shrinking and worsen the appearance of loose skin. If your skin is loose, you first need a skin-tightening procedure, such as tummy tuck, and then you can undergo liposuction.

Our Techniques

Dr. Sanmiguel will first make an incision in the targeted area. Then, he will loosen the fat. This can be done in a variety of ways, such as by using sound waves to liquefy the fat. Finally, he will remove the fat with either a suction pump or syringe.

After surgery, you will have to wear a special post-surgery garment. This tight-fit garment promotes shrinkage of loose skin. It also reduces bruising and swelling, which can last several weeks. Also, to ensure proper recovery, you must avoid exercise for several weeks.

We can combine liposuction with other procedures at our clinic. For instance, we can remove fat from your arms and shoulders with liposuction, then remove fat along the jaw line so your face matches your slimmer body.

Breast Implants — Achieve an Attractive, Symmetrical Bust Line

With breast augmentation, you can have the breast size and shape you’ve always wanted.

This procedure, also called mammaplasty, can be tailored to meet your needs. We can increase your breast size to improve overall attractiveness. We also can improve your body symmetry if you have had reconstructive surgery or have one breast that is larger than the other.

The Procedure

Dr. Sanmiguel first makes an incision around the nipple, in the breast crease, or in the armpit. Your doctor will choose which incision point is best for your body type and your enhancement procedure. All of these points are hidden from plain sight, making scars unnoticeable.

Our surgeon then enters the incision and creates a pocket, either underneath the breast tissue or under the muscle of the chest wall. Placement depends on your body type and exercise regime.

After surgery, you will notice swelling and bruising around the breasts for three to five weeks. You also will experience minor irritation around the nipples for two weeks. To promote proper healing, you will wear a gauze cover, then later a surgical bra. In addition, you must avoid vigorous activity — including exercise or repetitively raising your arm — for up to three weeks.

Breast Lift — Raise Drooping Breasts

If you want firmer breasts, consider breast lift surgery.

This procedure lifts sagging breasts and removes stretched skin. Many women undergo this procedure because their breasts lost their natural firmness after pregnancy, nursing, or substantial weight loss.

Our Techniques

We tailor the breast lift procedure to your breast size. For women with small breasts, we make only small incisions. For women with larger breasts, we make an anchor-shaped incision to remove as much tissue and stretched skin as possible. Our surgeon then removes excess skin from around the areola (the pigmented skin surrounding the nipples) and possibly below the breast. Next, he elevates the nipple and areola.

After surgery, your breasts will be wrapped in a gauze dressing or placed in a surgical bra. You might have to wear a supportive bra for several weeks. You can expect minor swelling and discoloration, but these effects will gradually subside. You may experience decreased breast or nipple sensation, which is usually temporary. You should be able to return to work within one or two weeks.

Tummy Tuck — Flatter Stomach

Your stomach will be smoother and flatter after tummy tuck surgery.

Many people relentlessly exercise, yet their stomach appears flabby and protrudes over their waist. This is because the stomach walls and skin have been stretched due to pregnancy or excessive weight gain. We recommend that these patients undergo tummy tuck surgery, also called abdominoplasty. This procedure removes excess skin and tightens sagging abdominal muscles.

The Tummy Tuck procedure

During the tummy tuck procedure, our surgeon first makes an incision from one hip to the other. The incision will be placed along the same lines as your bathing suit or undergarment, so the scar remains hidden. Our surgeon also has other methods for hiding scars, such as an endoscopic abdominoplasty. Dr. Sanmiguel will discuss these methods with you during your consultation.

Next, Dr. Sanmiguel lifts the skin flap, revealing the abdominal muscles. He then pulls up the sagging stomach muscles and stitches them to the abdominal wall. Finally, he removes excess skin, pulls the remaining skin down, and sews it together. The entire abdominoplasty procedure takes two to five hours.

Abdominoplasty patients may leave our clinic afterward, unless the surgery was extensive. In this case, they would need to stay in a hospital for two to three days afterward.

Bruising and swelling are typical side effects of tummy tuck surgery. These problems usually disappear within 10 days. You must avoid strenuous activity for a while but can return to work within several weeks.

Treatments to Reduce Wrinkles

You can reduce wrinkles and improve the suppleness of your skin with one of our quick filler treatments. These treatments take less than an hour and produce minimal after effects.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

This popular treatment can diminish forehead wrinkles, crows’ feet, and scowl lines between the eyebrows.

You develop these types of wrinkles naturally over time from using your facial muscles. A BOTOX® Cosmetic injection stops the contraction of these facial muscles, thus reducing wrinkles. You will notice that wrinkle lines are significantly reduced in a week. These results can last from three months to a year. You can expect minor swelling for a few days. But you can resume normal activities immediately after treatment.

Fat injections

A fat Injection can add volume to sunken cheeks and reduce wrinkles around the mouth and forehead. It also can enhance the size of the lips.

Before the injection, fat is removed from your stomach, thighs or buttocks. Because the filler comes from your body, an allergic reaction is impossible. Next, we filter the fat for excessive fluids, then inject it into targeted areas. After a week, you will see noticeable results that can last three to six months. Minor bruising and swelling are common side effects of the procedure. You will have to wear sunscreen and avoid the sun for 48 hours after fat injections.
